How We Build Retaining Walls
Foundation and Drainage
Every retaining wall starts below ground with a solid foundation. We excavate to stable soil and install compacted base material or poured concrete footings depending on wall height. This foundation prevents settling that causes walls to lean or fail.
Drainage is critical. Water pressure behind a retaining wall can cause failure even if the wall is otherwise well built. We install drainage pipe and gravel backfill that routes water away before pressure builds up. Proper drainage extends wall life and prevents expensive failures.
Wall Construction
Blocks are set level and plumb with proper setback if required. Reinforcement goes in as we build upward. For poured walls, we build forms, place rebar, and pour in lifts. Backfill is added carefully to avoid disturbing the wall structure.
Tall walls or walls supporting structures require engineering. We work with structural engineers to design walls that meet code requirements and handle the specific loads and soil conditions on your property. Safety and longevity are more important than saving a few dollars with an undersized wall.
